In this work microstructural and tribological investigations of AlTiN-coated conventional and powder metallurgy cold work steel substrates will be presented. For preparation of AlTiN we used deposition system CC800 (CemeCon) equipped with four unbalanced magnetron sputter source. Special emphasis willl be on characterization of surface topography of uncoated and coated substrates.
