ASSESSMENT OF CLIMATE CHANGE AND/OR VARIABILITY -AN OTHER POINT OF WIEV

The idea of “ climate change” has become widely synonymous with that of “ global warming” . This is paradoxically, construed in a very negative way as inevitably catastrophic, even in “ cold” countries like Canada and Finland. There is much confusion about this subject. Antarctic is the coldest, highest, driest, windiest place on the Earth. In the winter, the lowest recorded temperatures reached -89 0C. Antarctic is an important part of the Earth’ s system. By acting as a global heat it helps control our climate and weather. Antarctic holds 70 % of Earth’ s freshwater and 91 % of Earth’ s ice. It contains enough water to rise global sea level almost 70 meters.Originally, the greenhouse effect was known as the “ hot-house theory” , since the atmosphere was thought to behave in the same way as the glass in a greenhouse. However, the atmosphere and the greenhouse are not directly comparable. The term “ greenhouse effect” , accepted through use, is now general, to the detriment of the more appropriate term “ atmospheric effect” . If the quantity of trapped heat increases, the temperature may rise, and this is what we call the enhanced greenhouse effect, also known as the anthropogenic greenhouse effect since it is thought to be a result of human activities. It is precisely this enhancement of the natural greenhouse effect which is nowadays considered to be responsible for “ climate change” . CO2 EMISSIONS DUE TO HUMAN ACTIVITY REPRESENT ONLY FIVE PERCENTS OF THE NATURAL ADDITIONS OF CARBON TO THE ATMOSPHERE!
