Construction and demolition waste management system
Waste management system is of high priority for each community and makes a considerable contribution to a quality of life. To meet high standards in that field, it is very important to raise the awareness of each participant – from waste producers to end users. The main principles of waste management are to avoid waste production as much as possible, then if it is ecologically and technologically acceptable, to reuse it and last of all, to dispose it. Construction and demolition waste makes a considerable part in total waste amount and depending on material type, majority of them can be reused or recycled. However, efficiency of construction and demolition waste management system to a great extent depends on regulations and local conditions. In the paper, there are presented main guidelines and conclusions for sustainable construction and demolition waste system in Croatia resulted from detailed study carried out in the frame of project LIFE05 TCY/CRO/000114 “ CONWAS” . Results from the study will contribute to the successful legislation creation process and its enforcement concerning construction and demolition waste and improve environmental policy.
