Determinants of Household Credit Indebtedness in the Republic of Croatia
In the past few years there is a trend of increasing indebtedness for all sectors in Croatia. As a consequence of such developments, both internal and external debts have increased significantly. The share of debt in gross domestic product has come close to the level at which overall macroeconomic stability can be seriously disrupted. All these factors indicate how important it is to understand the dynamics of credit indebtedness in order to correctly comprehend macroeconomic movements in the economy as a whole. This paper will attempt to determine the factors with the biggest influence on the level of household credit indebtedness in the Republic of Croatia over past ten years. Regression analysis will be used to define the character of relationships existing between this sector's indebtedness and individual economic variables assumed to have an influence on household debt. The results will be used to formulate an adequate macroeconomic model.
