Analysis of Traffic Corridors Influence on Economic Development and Integral Database Modelling

There are several important traffic routes passing through the Republic of Croatia, which contribute to the integration of all parts of Europe. Since they connect Croatia with the rest of Europe and beyond, they could undoubtedly become a driving force for a wide range of social changes in the regions they pass through and neighbouring areas. Once finished, it can be expected that traffic corridors passing through Croatia will create preconditions for a stronger economic growth. To fully exploit these possibilities, macroeconomic policy makers need to determine the goals, development strategies and activities required for their realization on time. A decision support in this area would be to formulate a model for assessing the influence of traffic corridors on economic development. The analyses so far have not given sufficient attention to this problem area. The research to date has been limited to establishing direct financial results of using a certain traffic infrastructure and the time of investment return, whereas other factors have been disregarded. The model presented in this paper emphasizes the importance of considering different aspects of traffic corridor functioning. The proposed model is based on multiple regression analysis. Given the data insufficiency, a special place in the model construction is given to modelling an integral database. As an integral part of an information system, this database has to provide permanent accessibility of all the data required for particular analyses.
