Business Ethics and Economic Culture: Preconditions for Croatian inclusion to European Union

In this work, business ethics and business culture are regarded as a part of broader economic culture term. In addition, since the term economic culture is a value term (Weber), function of culture in economics can be analyzed through business ethics. Therefore, business ethics arises from society features and the way of making profit, and is always related with the practical life occurrences and, therefore, represents the form of practical ethics. Economic ethics in Croatia is related with emergion of Croatian capital market and changes toward modern and post-modern society after 1990. Furthermore, economic ethics of modern capitalism, present in Western Europe, differs from theory and practice of Croatia's capitalism due to the fact that capitalism in Croatia was developed by political changes of legal ownership conversion from social to state ownership, and from state to private ownership. Moreover, managerial company takeovers were redone based on principles of distributing and taking over of shares without investing personal capital. Thereby, Croatian management relied on propinquity with ruling government in aspiration to obtain ownership as a source of legitimacy and social status. Eventually, recent surveys in Croatia showed that process of management professionalisation has not continued but, moreover, a political management which marks pre-modern society was created.
