Ural Owls (Strix uralensis) in Croatia – their status and conservation
The Ural Owl was researched in some parts of Croatia between 1986 and 2006. in proportion to recorded singing males in the last 20 years, breeding population was estimated between 870-940 pairs. The concentration of breeding pairs was higher in some protected areas f.e. Plitvice lakes National park and Nature Park Velebit with 310-370 pairs. The most important forests type in a lowland regions was Genisto elatae- Quercetum rorboris and in montane region Abieti-Fagetum dinaricum. The altitude ih this forest is less in lowland (between 80-130 m) and higher in the monaten region between 500-1200 m.
