Zastupljenost padeža u hrvatskome jeziku u pisanim i govornim tekstovima

This paper analyses distribution of Croatian Cases in different types of text. The data consists of spoken text (freely spoken without pre-writing), its written version (which is edited for printing), written data from two Croatian first-grade Croatian school-books, biblical epic text (2 Sam 11-12), Psalm 51 (50). It is compared to child-directed spoken adult input data, two spoken data from young children (2 and 2, 6) and a spoken data of 211 speakers (range 5-70 years old, but mostly middle-aged). Nominative is almost always the most common case, Accusative the second. Together with the third, Genitive they cover app. 80 % of data. Vocative is the least common. There are U 84% singular and 16% plural case forms. The percentage of different cases depends on type of text: written vs. spoken, its speaker or writer, the listeners or readers, the register, the content. However, the three most common cases will most often be Nom, Acc, Gen, the rest will change order depending on the text. Accusastive has the most stabile position ; usually 1/4 of words with declination will be in Accusative (25 – 28 %). Nominative is far less predictable, it depends more on the text characteristics (24 – 45 %), due to lyrics, otherwise it would range from 31 to 45 %). Genitive ranges 11– 16 %, Locative 5-8 %, Instrumental 4 – 6 %, Dative 6 – 15 %, Vocative 0 – 6 %.
