EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CURRICULUM FOR TEACHERS' CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The article has a theoretical and empirical part. In the first theoretical part, various approaches in determining those concepts which are key for involving new educational technologies into the curriculum of teachers' continuous professional development. New educational technologies and the curriculum for the professional development of teachers based on the system theory and curriculum theory as well as other relevant theories and pedagogical and psychological principles are discussed. The empirical part of the article analyzed the current state and the possibility of developing those teacher competences which are important for the application of new educational technologies in the teaching and learning process. Research showed an inadequate presence of new educational technologies in basic integral elements of the curriculum of teachers' continuous professional development: aims of development, program content, conditions for professional development as well as assessment and evaluation. This made apparent those current educational needs and components of teacher competences which should be part of the program for professional development in the future. Especially notable are those components which are related to information and communication competence that teachers should have in order to apply new educational technologies in teaching and learning. In the same manner, the results of the research present the actions for further improving the quality of teacher's professional development.
