Are the negative symptoms of shizophrenia related to depression
The results show connection of the negative symptoms of schizophrenia and depression. The results show severe depression in the schizophrenic patients having negative symptoms of schizophrenia, according to the applied scale, with the patients who show no clinical signs of depression. The nature of this relation is not clear. It is possible that the patients have reaction to the schizophrenia as an illness itself with depression, or it is possible that the schizophrenic patients show their depression differently than the depressive patients do. It is possible that the schizophrenic patients express their depression through the negative symptoms, because of their psycho-dynamic structure which makes obstacle to the verbalization of their emotions. It should be noted here that the Beck's Depression Inventory is not designed for application on schizophrenic patients. Also, it is not yet standardized for-the Croatian population, and therefore the results should be taken into consideration with caution. Our results show that it is necessary to conduct further investigation on this subject.
