Evaluation of Graphical Design Influence on Usability and Learnability of Educational Multimedia Systems

These days’ people who are learning or getting an education need significantly less time to reach the information they need. It is mostly caused by and increased use of ICT which is present in almost all segments of human activities. The increased use of ICT in education and learning is manifested in increased demands in using e- learning systems, which nowadays know no cultural, national or language barriers. Regardless of the community in which a system is applied in education or learning, in most cases the principal purpose of such systems is informing or applying some form of lifelong education so further development of such systems undoubtedly depends on constant evaluation of the existing solutions and on systematic creation of new ones. In accordance with the stated, this paper shows the result of a scientific comparison of three systems that function in different ways, but whose main aim is offering curriculum contents, knowledge, information, etc., and to reach as many users as possible by means of their solutions. The scientific testing model applied in this paper primarily refers to the information, instruction and graphic design usefulness testing stage, of each system first and then a comparison of the three systems, with the aim of testing the usefulness and motivation level of in the use of such systems by the end users. The basic hypothesis of the conducted research refers to the confirming or refuting the postulate that visual communication and its design along with the way the information and instruction design is structured have an influence on the persistence (stimulation and motivation) of the end users to use some of the researched systems more often, more easily and independently and that in general due to the organization of the stated elements they use the researched systems more than they use other systems. The research has been conducted on a sample of 300 students of various institutions of higher education in the Republic of Croatia.
