Role of (reperfusion) arrhythmias in predicting outcome in patients with ST-elevation acute myocardila infarction

The incidence and signification of reperfusion arrhythmias in patients with ST-elevation acute myocardial infarction were investigated, comparing patients treated with PCI (n=82) and patients treatd with streptokinas (n=55). Comparing two groups of patients, those treated with urgent PCI had higher frequency of all reperfusion arrhythmias with exception of premature ventricular complexes. Nonsustained VT was associated with lower frequency of MACE than sustained VT and ventricular fibrillation (VF). Conclusion. The results of this study confirm the superiority of PCI in the urgent treatment of STEMI. Among investigated arrhythmias, nonsustained VT is the best indicator of succesful reperfusion, while sustained VT and VF represent direct complications of ischemic myocardial lesion.
