Determinants of the Development Concept of Family-run Hotels
The establishing of SMEs as the providers of new forms of the tourism offering and as a synonym for the new quality of Croatian tourism is evolving into a strategic determinant of Croatian tourism in opposition to the low-quality private-accommodations sector. The objective of this paper is to undertake a qualitative analysis of the importance of family-run hotels in the Croatian tourism industry and to generate new lines of development. Family-run hotels are characterised by an authentic and distinctive offering infused with indigenous values and traditional heritage, diversity, personality and individuality. They are adopting a new business philosophy rooted in sustainable development in order to achieve excellence and to bridge the gap between their own capabilities, modern tourist preferences and the competition.
