Organization changes as an issue of organization development : case of Croatia
This paper is based on the exploration of organization changes as an issue of organizational development in Croatian enterprises. We explored organizational change in Croatian enterprises and its relationship to competitive advantage, organizational structure and strategy. The longitudinal data from two surveys is compared: the first survey was performed in Croatia in year 2000 and repeated among the same survey sample in 2005. The surveys have shown the following: (1) there has been a change in the use of different organizational structures in Croatian enterprises with an increased use of the modern organizational forms, (2) the fit among strategy and structure increased among Croatian enterprises in the period 2000-2005, (3) the percentage of enterprises in restructuring phase decreased in the 5 year period, (4) enterprises that use modern organizational structures have achieved higher fit among strategy and structure than enterprises that use classic structures, as well as the medium sized and larger enterprises compared to small ones. During the period of observation (5) most organizational have three hierarchical levels which is in accordance to the new trend of delayering in organizations. Also, we have noted that (6) changes in Croatian enterprises are performed continuously, not just when necessary where (6) enterprises that perform changes continuously have achieved a higher fit among organizational structure and strategy.
