In this Encyclopedia article the author explains to which extent the states bordering the Adriatic Sea are exercising jurisdiction in the various marine zones, as codified in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (territorial sea, contiguous zone, EEZ, continental shelf), also referring to existing delimitation agreements and still unresolved issues of delimitation. He further deals with questions of navigation and the significance of the Adriatic Sea in the European context.
