PCET in the Oxidation of Ascorbate. Dramatic Change of the Kinetic Isotope Effect on the Change in Solvent Polarity
The first step of the oxydation of ascorbate with substituted nitrosobenzenes is a proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) reaction and the observed kinetic isotope effects in the reaction, kH2O/kD2O, change dramatically with the change in solvent polarity, in line with the known theoretical predictions.
