Supraorbital keyhole approach in anterior skull base meneingeomas surgery
We retrospectively analyzed our series of 73 patients all operated for anterior skull base meningeomas over a 7-year period (2000-2006). There were 52 females and 21 males. Mean age was 57.4 years. The follow-up period veried between 6 months and 7 years. The preoperative KPS score and psychological testing were compared with the postoperative measurement. A special attention was put on the surgical approach related complication rate. On the basis of our results, supraorbital keyhole approach is a safe and elegant procedure for both patients and surgeon even in large anterior skull base meningeomas. The use of modern neurosurgical tools such as neuronavigation and ultrasound aspiration is recommendable in order to limit the necessity for large exposure of the bone and the underlying nervous tissue.
