Challenges of the Development Concept of Croatian Tourism in the European Enviroment
Croatian tourism, although growing, is not achieving results proportional to its natural resources. It is not keeping pace with European market trends, thus resulting in widening the gap between what it presently offers and the ever-increasing needs of the tourist. Qualitative and quantitative indicators can describe the present state of Croatian tourism. Its natural beauty, geographical position and the hospitality of its residents have been very positively graded. At the same time, its lack of services other than accommodations represents a great disadvantage, as they have yet to part with the stereotyped offers of mass tourism. It is necessary to create a strategic tourism development plan based on analysis of the existing situation. In creating competitive advantages it is necessary to have affirmation of Croatia's own particularities and attractiveness together with a qualitative improvement on additional services other than accommodation that include entertainment and animated content. It is necessary to implement selective services. Croatia has the possibility of becoming a prestigious destination offering sports tourism and active holidays.
