Aspects of Decision Support in Municipal Solid Waste Management
Municipal solid wate and its inadequate management are one of the most critical environmental problems in Dalmatia. Process of selecting type of the model with the results of modeling the number and siting of waste management centers in Dalmatia are presented in this paper. The considered problem was analyzed through comparison and evaluation of several criteria sets relevant to the decision-making process. Ecological, economic, social and functional factors have been taken into account and included in the multi-criteria analysis. The methodology has been applied to four Dalmatian countries. Decision makers in the area of environmental management usually receive several different information streams without any guidance on their integration and evaluation. The proposed methodology for this particular case can provide a decision support tool that can be helpful to the decision-maker, act intermediary between experts and decision-makers, ease a negotiation process between stakeholders and provide a platform for information sharing. This way, public can be actively involved in the decision-making process, what will increase the probability of successful implementation of the selected alternative.
