Sažetak
The aim of this paper is to show how teachers of a foreign language (FL) teach young learners (YL) – what kind of input they offer to YL in the first grade of primary school. It is in a way a challenge for the teacher and learners also because children's knowledge of the world is still at a low level ; but various approaches and techniques have been developed to help teachers make foreign language teaching (FLT) possible. We chose teacher talk for the analysis because we find teacher talk most important in the first grade of primary school. It is, to many learners but not all, the first contact with a FL and it is often said that the first FL teacher leaves an important impact on learners and on their further learning of a FL.
