Study of the thermal comfort in an open-spaced office
Increasing concern about energy consumption and the need for an acceptable thermal environment make it necessary to estimate in advance what effect the chosen HVAC system will have on the occupants. This paper studies the effectiveness of a commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) program, based on finite volume method, for stimulating air distribution and thermal comfort in an air-conditioned open-spaced office. The 3D air flow model is based on the steady state incompressible, Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. Different turbulence models have been examined. The CFD predictions have been compared to the results obtained by the zonal modeling approach as well as to the experimental measurements.
