Rhabdomyolisis associated with alcohol abuse and acute renal failure.
Abstract: Rhabdomyolisis is characterised by local or generalised sceletal muscle necrosis. It is caused by many clinical conditions and may ocur with traumatic crush injury, muscle ischaemia (arterial insufficiency, mucle compression, cocaine overdose), heat, stroke, malignant hyperethermia, seizures, infections (influenza, legionela), alcoholism, or metabolic disorders (hypokalemia, hypophosphatemia, myophosphorase or phosphofructokinase deficency). Clinical symptoms are muscle pain and muscle weakness. Labaratory investigations show a rise in serum creatine phosphocinase and electrolyte disturbancies. The most serious complication is acute renal failure. We prasent a patient with alcoholic lactic acidosis with liver disease. She developed dehydration and acute renal failure after drinking a large volume of alcohol.
