Improvement of the fatigue properties of aluminum alloys for use in modern shipbuilding
Modern high-speed ships and super-high-speed ships demand application of materials that are uncommon in today?s shipbuilding. These materials need to be light with a good strength, fatigue and corrosion resistance and with a good welding capability. Various aluminum alloys can be technologically improved to match those demands. This paper presents a method for improvement of fatigue properties of alloys Al2024 and Al8090 in state T3 that can be used in production of new types of high-speed ships in Croatian shipbuilding. The shot-peening process will be one of the important technological processes in the production of super-high-speed vessels for the purpose of material fatigue improvement.
