Effect of genotype and environment on spring barley hordeins
The genetic and environmental effects on total grain protein, malt extract and hordein fractions have been studied in four spring barley cultivars grown in field trials at Croatia. Barley grain hordeins were analyzed by RP-HPLC. A significant difference was observed among the cultivars in B, C and D hordein relative proportions, but there was no statistically significant difference between locations and years. Regarding protein content, malt extract and total hordein content, there were significant differences among years, but not among locations. There were also differences in malt extract content and total hordein content between cultivars. Grain protein content was highly significantly correlated with total hordein content, but there wasn’ t noticed grain protein influence on particular hordein fractions proportions.
