Eye movements in schizophrenia
The blink reflex is in direct connection with dopaminergic system which is in dysfunction in schizophrenics. In the group of 25 schizophrenic patients spontaneous eyelid blinkings were recorded before and after neuroleptic therapy. Results of the study showed considerably more blinkings in schizophrenic than in healthy subjects. The application of neuroleptic drugs in schizophrenics leads to considerable reduction in blinking number, but schizophrenics also during the administration of neuroleptic drugs blink considerably more than healthy subjects. There was no difference among individual schizophrenic patients according to the type of schizophrenia ("+" and "-").
