Improvement of fatigue strength properties of aluminum alloy components by manufacturing processes

The intention of these experiments was to evaluate possible improvements of fatigue strength of casted aluminum components by controlled compression. Six type of cast specimens were tested in a mechanically driven bending test machine under constant amplitude and stress ratio R=-1. The Wöhler (S-N) curves were obtained after statistical analysis of results at all load levels. Stress distributions at all types of specimens were estimated experimentally, by strain gauges, and numerically, by finite elements method.
