attitudes toward integration of children with learning difficulties
Although legislation regarding the educational integration has been enacted in the Republic of Croatia in 1980, there still is a number of difficulites in practical realisation. One of them in certainly, as a number of research works show, is insufficient under-graduate education of teachers. The teachers themselves stress zhe need for additional training for work with children with special needs. The training programme Education of teachers for the acceptance of pupils with special needs which includes lectures and workshops, has been attended by 58 teachers in the Zagreb area. The questionnaire Opinons about integration has been applied in the initial and final moment to both experimental and control groups. The questionnaire consists of 21 statements indicating the attitudes of teachers toward pupils with delayed cognitive development and their integration in the regular schools. Differences between results in initial and final state were calculated. On the differences we have performed discriminant analysis between experimantal and control group. The results show that the changes in both groups are quantitatively and qualitatively different. We can conclude that the application of the teacher -training programme resulted in positive changes in their attitudes.
