Possibility of replacing maize with wheat and barley in mixtures with enzyme preparations for fattening chicks in stress

The effect of enzyme preparations on production results of fattening chicks kept in stressful conditions was studied. The investigation was carried out on a total of 300 fattening chicks of the Avian hybrid line, divided into three groups of 100 chicks each. All three groups of chicks were kept on a floor system in the same house, but in three different rooms. During the whole period of fattening the chicks were exposed to unfavourable conditions such as increased temperature, overcrowdind, insufficient feeding space and old litter. Feed and water were provided ad libitum. In the first three weeks the chicks were fed on a starter mixture and over the last three weeks on a finisher mixture. The first group of chicks (C) was given commercial feed for fattening chisks, based on a maize. The mixture for the second group (E1) was based on wheat with the addition of multienzyme preparation, Avizyme Tx, while the mixture for the third group (E2) was based on barley with the addition of a multienzyme preparation, Avizyme Sx. The health condition of the chicks was recorded daily and dead chicks were pathomorphologically examined. Chicks were vaccinated according to the usual regime. The effect of added multienzyme preparation was established on the basis of body mass gain values, food conversion, amount of abdominal fat, and death rate of chicks during the course of fattening. On the basis of investigation results it can be concluded that chicks in groups E1 and E2, fed on mixtures with multienzyme preparations added, bore the stressful conditions more easily and achieved better production results than the chicks in the group C, fed on commercial mixture without the addition of a multienzyme preparation.
