Countries in Transition and Their Trade Policies in the Framework of EU Enlargement
After the collapse of the CMEA, almost all the transition countries, and especially Central and East European ones, significantly changed the direction of their trade, in particular towards the EU. A huge reorientation of trade flows considerably changed their trade pattern as well, reflecting progress up in the chain of value added. The paper summarizes the main trade policy reforms' results in CEE countries, especially trade liberalization and consequences of their high trade openness. Intensive trade and overall economic dependency on EU determines their further processes of trade reforms, especially regarding the concluded Association Agreements. So, the research focuses on the EU trade policy towards CEECs, particularly provisions that refer to so-called sensitive goods. Since the liberalization in the EU trade with CEECs have bigger effects for agriculture than for manufacturing, there will be analyzed some constraints in the CEECs' trade policies towards agriculture.
