On certain experience with a power line communication system

Wired access to a communication system from an office or home may be based on PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), CATV (Cable TV) or PL (Power Line) network. The last one is the most probably network within one's reach for an ad-hoc network to establish. So, the infrastructure cost is reduced. Based on the recent literature and equipment available, a PLC (Power Line Communication) was trialed in the real-world indoor environments: The Polytechnic of Zagreb campus, private residential house and an apartment in the sky-scraper. The topic of interest is EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), so the noise power spectrum in the frequency band of the communication signal was measured and analyzed. The communication range and data transfer rate are tested and compared to the values declared in the equipment data sheet and in certain references. All the results and conclusions, together with relevant theoretical explanations, will be presented in the paper proposed.
