Reuse of dialysers-follow up of changes in T lymphocyte subsets and complement fractions

The aim of this study was to follow up changes in the number of lymphocytes T, T lymphocyte subsets and complement fractions during hemodialysis with the first and second use of the same dialyser. Ten patients on the chronic hemodialysis program were included. No change in the number of lymphocytes T and CD4 and CD8 supopulations during dialysis with reused dialyser was noted. More C3 and C4 complement components were found (p<0.05) with reused dialyser. Biocompatibility characteristics of the membranes could be modified by the reuse of a dialyser.
