Evaluating pre-sorting technologies on proposed weigh station on Route 78
The increasing number and weight of trucks that are on the roads of the United States require improved and efficient systems of control and surveillance. Thus the, Federal DOT spell out requires that state’ s Departments of Transportation to build weigh stations in their state road networks. One proposed station in New Jersey is on the Route 78 in Warren County in Greenwich Township. The efficiency of the weigh station also depends on the equipment being used. In this paper, several pre-sorting technologies will be examined (WIM and transponders). Three types of WIM technologies will be tested for their impacts on weigh station efficiency. Also, it will be attempted to find the effect of percent of trucks equipped with transponders in regards to the efficiency of weigh station.
