Osteometrical Analysis of Metapodial Bones and Phalanges of Fallow Deer (Dama Dama L.) from Brijuni Island
The subject matter of this work is metapodial bones and phalanges of seven fallow deer (Dama dama L.) from Brijuni Island, with known age, sex and body mass. Osteometrical analyses comprised 28 metapodials and 168 phalanges. Descriptive statistics points that coefficient of variation of metapodial measurements and phalanges length values are below 10%, while at phalanges breadth values are more than 10%. Metapodial distal epiphysis at fallow deer from Brijuni Island fused a little bit earlier than 24 months. Comparison of osteometric values of all mentioned bones with body mass results with negative correlation. Excluding ostemetrical values of juvenile individuals with unfused and /or half-fused epiphysis, the correlation becomes highly positive. Breadth values are better correlated with body mass than length values.
