The effect of erosion on pitting surface resistance of duplex steel welded joint
Duplex steels belong to the class of stainless steels. These materials are unique because they have microstructure composed of approximately equal amounts of ferrite and austenite. Due to duplex steel have extraordinary combination of mechanical and anti-corrosion properties, and they are widely used in various fields of application. If this balanced relation of ferrite and austenite is disturbed, and if in microstructure appear σ -phase precipitants, which can realistically be expected, e.g. by welding, then the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance are damaged. The experimental part of the work established the relation between appearance and increase of σ - phase volume shares and erosion influence to pitting resistance of duplex steel grade 1.4462 (X2CrNiMoN 22 5 3). The specimens have been annealed at 800 º ; ; C over the period of: 1, 2 and 3 hours, then exposed to solid particle erosion for 60 minutes, and after that corrosion tested to the pitting corrosion. The obtained results indicate significant influence of erosion on the intensity of pitting corrosion in the area where σ -phase is occurs.
