Comfort measurement of the furniture to lie on

Human health as a crucial prerequisite for proper functioning becomes the increasingly important factor of contemporary demanding work- and lifestyle and in the attempts to economize with time and money. Comfort as a subjective perception generated by the internal and external influences upon human body is considered immeasurable by direct methods. Therefore, interaction with the body’ s lying base is measured instead. Permanent search into new constructional forms of furniture to lie on has been marked by desire to provide comfort. The furniture to lie on having direct influence on bodily relaxation and perception of pleasure and comfort is also responsible for our health. Not very much has been elucidated about comfort which is one of the key quality criteria for the upholstered furniture. Comfortable furniture to lie on does not produce fatigue when we lie on it, get out of it or change our position on it. Comfort of this furniture is a precondition for healthy living. Basic principle of comfort is in the system where body weight of the lying person is transferred to the bed surface over the bones, while the spine retains its natural position. Various factors, such as construction of upholstery and of its parts, the shape and hardness of the lying surface, degree of deformity of the mentioned surfaces together with the whole construction of the product, determine perception of comfort provided to the user and degree of fatigue. Present work presents to date discoveries and some methods for measuring of comfort.
