Sažetak
Comparing the number of admittances according to five stress related conditions in one-year period before the unannounced warfare (1.7.1989.-30.6.1990.) to the number in one-year period during the unannounced warfare in Croatia (1.7.1990.-30.6.1991.), we noticed the occurence of acute pancreatitis and upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage in a higher frequency than expected. One of the explanations could be the increased amount of acute and chronic stress induced by unannounced warfare in Croatia, involving neurosecretory mechanisms and alcohol abuse as well. In contrast, we noticed no difference in the occurence of acute myocardial infarction. The reason for this could possibly be the previous existance of well known risk factors that take the longer time period for coronary heart disease to develop.
