Analysis of IL-6-174 promotor polymorphism in GEP-NET
GEP-NETs produce biogenic amines, especially CgA. It has been shown that CgA levels correlate with TNF-alpha suggesting a link between neuroendocrine and immune system. TNF-alpha stimulates IL-6 production in certain tumor cells. The aim was to investigate wheather the presence of G allele in the IL-6-174 polymorphism predisposes to GEP-NET or carries a poor outcome. 53 GEP-NET patients and 139 unrelated healthy volunteers were genotyped for the -174 IL-6 promotor polymorphism using PCR-NlaIII RFLP. There was no statistically significant difference in the frequency of the G allele associated with GEP-NET development.
