Analytical interference of metronidazole and tinidazole in analysis of human sera at 340 nm
Absorbances of metronidazole and tinidazole overlap with the absorbance of NADH at 340 nm. Interferences of these drugs with the determination of catalytic concentration of transaminases, as well as with the determination of urea and glucose concentrations, i.e. with the analytical results obtained by using the methods involving NADH, have been assessed for the commonly used autoanalysers. Most types of analysers record an analytical interference of 10 to 15% in the presence of either drug when samples contain the drug in the concentration of 50 mg L-1. The most significant interference emerged when using ABA-100 for the determination of the catalytic concentration of aspartate aminotransferase (-250% nkat L-1 or 41%). Higher drug concentrations cause even higher interferences.
