Activated Natural Zeolite on Textiles for Protection and Therapy

Tribomechanical activated volcanic mineral, natural zeolite clinoptilolite is microporous hydrated crystals containing aluminosilicates with well-defined structures containing AlO4 and SiO4 tetrahedral linked through the common oxygen atoms. Firstly is to point out that zeolites act as strong adsorbents and ion-exchangers but having many other properties. Zeolites are nontoxic substance, excellent for UVR and microbes protection, for adsorption of proteins and small molecules such as glucose. Due to its cationexchange ability, zeolites have catalytic properties and for that multiple uses in industry, agriculture, water purification and detergents. Activated zeolite has also been investigated in abroad spectrum of medical uses ; such are tumor and diabetes. It is to point out that clinoptilolite has shown strong anti- oxidative properties, acts as an immunoactivator and has decontamination effects. As an anti- oxidant it prevents forming of free radicals (FR) in human body decreasing healing time of wounds and surgical incisions. Silicate, as a superantigen induces in vitro polyclonal human T cell activation. Silica and related substances such as silicate possess “ adjuvant effects” . Therefore, clinoptilolite is used by cancer patients and patients with autoimmune diseases. Recent results indicate that tribomechanical activated zeolite (TMAZ) shows the significant changes regarding particle size, surface characteristics, electrostatic charge and ion exchange capacity. It is potentially a new antioxidant which seems to have bigger capacity than already known antioxidants. It adsorbs up to 50% or more of phospholipids or protein molecules. In the tribomechanical process during production of nanoparticles, zeolites receive high portion of kinetic energy resulting in high potential energy and high negative zeta potential, very useful for human cell activation. For such a reason it is carrier of energy. At the last but not the least activated zeolite regulates the pH values of human tissue counteracting hyperacidity.
