Free Movement of Goods and Limits of Regulatory Autonomy in the European Union and World Trade Organization
In every other system that strives to achieve free trade, it is necessary to balance that aim with the protection of other values. Such balancing not only has strong implications for competitiveness and economic results, but also goes to the very heart of national regulatory autonomy, constitutionalism and sovereignty. In the EU and the WTO the difficulties in finding a suitable balance were most visible in the area of non-pecuniary restrictions to free movement of goods. The dissertation analyses EU and WTO rules in this area and their mutual influences.
European Union; World Trade Organization; sovereignty; regulatory autonomy; free movement of goods; internal market
