Diagnosis for unsuccessful local calls in PBX
Rapid growth of business communication systems makes traffic measurements and diagnostic methods increasingly important. In this work special attention was paid to detect and describe the reasons of unsuccessful calls in Private Branch eXchange (PBX). The main issue referred to herewith was to help analyze the data collected by traffic measurements. A new approach to a call treatment based on information theory was applied to detect and explain potential unexpected situations during the users' call management. Potential problems presented here have been detected during long time monitoring of PBX with unstable characteristics of telephone traffic, i.e. high fluctuation of traffic between measurement days. This paper presents an approach to the use of traffic measuremenhts data for advance conclusions about the quality of service in the telephone traffic. Unsuccessful calls in an optimally structured PBX are considered fault, with direct implication to the quality of service and degree of users' satisfaction.
