Immune functions in children with malignant embryonal tumors
The aim was to investigate some of the parameters of systemic cellular immune reactions in children suffering with malignant embrional tumors. The blood was collected before surgery or after cytostatic and/or radiotherapy at the time when the leucocyte count reached at least 3x10^9/L. The lower percentages of T, Th and B lymphocytes and no reactivity to PPD in the migration inhibition test were found. The NK activity and phagocytic functions were impaired. Patients without metastases had loweer ADCC than both control and patients with metastases. Proliferative capacity of lymphocytes was increased and more pronounced in patients with metastases. Analysis of prognostic meanings of our findings needs additional testing.
neuroblastoma; nephroblastoma; Ewing's sarcoma; rhabdomyosarcoma; mesonephroma; lymphocyte subpopulations; flow cytometry; blast transformation; migration inhibition; NK activity; phagocyte functions
