Alteration of immune reactivity in aged humans
Numerous studies have demonstratid alterations of immune functions with age, comprising both humoral and cellular immunity. Immunogerontological studies have often produced conflicting results. In the attempt to standardize the selection of healthy aged subjects the Senieur protocol was developd by establishing strict admission criteria based on clinical information and laboratory data. The aim of this study was to compare the results of humoral and cellular immunological tests in aged (65-84 years) and young (18-34 years) persons selected according the Senieur protocol. Only some of the parameters tested significantly differed between two groups. Total globulins and Ig A were higher, while tuberculin skin test, ADCC and NK activity were diminished in the aged persons.
Senieur protocol; differential blood count; immunoglobulins; complement; Mantoux test; phagocytosis; HK activity; random mobility
