Immunological reactivity in school children with recurrent respiratory tract infections
The aim was to check whether there was any immunological deficiency in children with recurrent respiratory infections. Forty-eight of 660 monitored school children of both sexes, aged 7 to 14 years, having three or more respiratory tract infections annualy were examined. The project covered case history taking and clinical and laboratory tests. Laboratory tests included the quantitative determination of immunoglobulins (IgG, IgM, IgA) levels and complement (C3 and C4) components, T and B lymphocytes (rosette techniques), migration inhibition test, leucocyte spontaneous mobility, phagocytosis, and cytotoxicity. Out of 660 primary school children, 20 (3.0%) were shown to have some deficiency of the tested immunological parameters. No cases of a true immunodeficient disease were detected in this group.
