Hobby Falco subbuteo

A single individual of the Hobby was observed on 5 Jun 2007, about 300 m northeast from the church located on the seashore in the bay of Sveti Nikola harbour on the island of Olib (UTM VK81). According to Rucner, D. 1998 (Ptice hrvatske obale jadrana) Hobby is often seen in June along the Croatian coastline. However, there are no current data about this bird breeding in the area. In addition to Hobby, birds of prey observed during the days spent on Olib (29-31 May 2007, 4-5 Jun 2007) included 2-3 Buzzards Buteo buteo and a pair of Kestrels Falco tinnunculus, appearing almost every day, which suggests that the latter two species probably breed on the island.
