Colony-Forming Ability of a Lymphoid and a Myeloid Murine Leukemia
Mice of inbred strains RF/O and A/H were inoculated with 102–105 cells of a serially transplanted, strain-specific leukemia. Myeloid leukemia of the RF10 mice formed macroscopically visible colonies on the spleens. Lymphoid leukemia of the AIH strain did not form visible colonies, but, instead, diffusely infiltrated thymus-dependent areas of the spleen follicles finally causing the follicles to coalesce. This leukemia might, therefore, have originated from thymus-derived lymphocytes. Colony-forming ability is regarded as a quality of sessile cells such as the early myeloid cells or the early progenitorsof the lymphoid elements.
