Buckling analysis of elastic thin-walled beam-type structures considering joints behaviour
In this work a one-dimensional FE formulation for stability analysis of thin-walled beam-type structures, taking into account effects of connection flexibilities, is presented. The tangent matrix of a conventional 14-degree of freedom beam element is derived by applying linearized virtual work principle and Vlasov’ s assumption. Material is homogeneous, isotropic and linear-elastic. Flexible connections are allowed to occur at finite element nodes by modifying elastic and geometric stiffness matrices of a conventional beam element and for this a special transformation matrix is derived. Stability analysis is performed in an eigenvalue manner, neglecting pre-buckling deformations and assuming an ideal structural geometry and loading conditions.
