Power requirements during planing and surface quality of planed elements
This paper presents the results of research on power requirements, noise emission and surface quality during planing of solid walnut-wood (Juglans regia L.), cherry-wood (Prunus avium L.) and horse chestnut-wood (Castanea sativa Mill.). The variables concerned were: feed rate, cutting depth and cutting directions with regard to grain directions. The cutting speed and tool parameters were constant. Cutting power reaches higher values during planing with grater feed speed and greater cutting depth. Results have shown that the power requirements are lower when planing radial board than tangential and semi-radial boards, especially when the cutting depth is greater. The level of noise emission could be expressed in dependence on power requirements. The best surface quality is measured with cherry-wood planed elements. There are no significant changes in surface quality under the influence of cutting depth and different feed speed in the experiment.
