Advanced ovarian borderline tumor
The aim of this work is to present a case of advanced ovarian borderline tumor (FIGO III)that survived 11 years. Case report: A sixty-four year old diabetic postmenopausal woman underwent an operation because of a large ovarian tumor. Ca 125=340/U/ml and a radical operation was done. The ovarian tumor was a borderline, serous, papillary tumor, with metastasis on the great omentum. Steroid receptors were negative. The patient was treated with chemotherapy. After five and eight years she was operated on again because of metastatatic process in the umbilical region, and small pelvis, and chemotherapy was repeated. During 11 years she underwent 30 cycles of chemotherapy and between cycles she was eight years in complete remission. The patients is still alive after 11 years. Borderline tumors of the ovary can produce the same pathology as malignant tumors and advanced borderline tumors must be treated with the same procedures as malignant ovarian tumors.
