Fitoterapija u veterinarskoj medicini

Medicinal plants and their preparations are for sure the first substances in medicine that had been used by men for healing. And so use of the medicinal plants in veterinary medicine has long tradition. After the abandoning usage of plants in therapy, contemporary veterinary medicine increases use of phytoteraphy in prevention, healing and maintaining of health in domestic animals in ecological breeding, but also in other animals especially pets. Breeders that do ecological production are forced to use alternative forms of healing because the use of antibiotics, hormones and other pharmacological preparations is not always permitted because of residues in meat and milk (regulations of ecological production of products of animal origin, NN 13/02). Phytoteraphy today implicit healing and prevention of diseases with aid of plants, parts of plants and their preparations. Such preparations have wide therapeutically effect because of variety and combinations of active and other substances. The concept "medicinal plants" is common for plants that produce healing substances, and usual concept of healing substances is that they are substances that in certain amount produce some healing effect or in certain conditions has use in preventing, lessening, removing, healing disease or symptom of disease in organism of people or animals. Medicinal plants fall into lot of different plant families. Of them, in this paper, only the most commonly used in veterinary medicine will be shown, and their botanical characteristics. Also there will be data on symptoms and course of diseases for which we can use medical plants and the ways of administering the plants.
